Our Exotic Southern Caribbean Cruise Dec.2007

On Our Way

Our cruise was WONDERFUL, twelve days is a nice length of time as seven days is way too short. It seems you just get unpacked and knowing your way around and then it's time to leave. Holland America definitely is our style of cruising. It isn't a party ship like Carnival and NCL. Holland America is geared towards a more sophisticated and mature crowd. The shows were entertaining and the way the ship was managed impressed us. Even when there was a problem with one of our shore excursions we were notified right away when we arrived at our tour bus and received an instant refund and offered an alternative tour.

Way back in February of last year we had decided to book a 12-day cruise with Holland America on the Ms Noordam. This is a rather new ship built in 2006 and we’d heard excellent reports from other people who had cruised with Holland America Cruise Line stating how much they enjoyed it. So we dropped by The Cruise Lady Office and talked with our own agent, Mary. I had done my homework online and found the rates for a balcony cabin. We went ahead and booked our cabin and gave her the down payment. Soon we had our cruise booked and looking forward to 12 glorious days of relaxing in the sun. And since our cruise was in December the warm days in the Caribbean sounded like the perfect place to be. We decided that instead of parking in New Jersey where we did last year when we took our cruise out of New York City that we would drive all the way and park at the cruise terminal right next to the ship.

Alan had dropped Teacup off at the Pet Hotel before picking me up from work on Friday, November 30th. We were so excited! We stopped and had frapaccinos at Star Bucks and then made a quick stop by the house so I could change out of my work clothes into something more comfy for the drive. Soon we were on our way. After about two hours we decided to grab some dinner at a truck stop, which ended up being a huge mistake. I told Alan we should’ve gotten the buffet, at least it would’ve been hot food and faster. We drove up past Trenton, New Jersey, where we stayed at a nice hotel recommended by the Truckers Manual. After finding the hotel we drove around trying to find a store to get some snacks and drinks but all we could find was a small little convenience store. I got some Graham Crackers and a bottle of water. The hotel room was spacious and the bed felt so good. It was just what we needed to get a good night’s sleep after a long day at work and driving. Sleep came easy.... zzzz.
