God is Good...all the time!

This is my husband Alan and I love him dearly. Sunday was a day both of us will never forget. Alan had gotten up and gone to work around 3am and was finished delivering his loads in time to drive me to church at 9:00. Right before pulling into the church driveway he noticed pain between his shoulder blades in his back so when he dropped me off he got out of the pickup to stretch. That's when he noticed pain in both his arms and slight pressure in his chest. He jokingly said, "I hope I'm not having a heart attack." I told him he should go to Patient First and get checked out but said it was nothing and that hot tubbing at Bally's would remove any kinks in his back. I felt there might be more to it so asked Diane and Les in my Sunday School class to start praying. We did and Diane suggested we go to Bally's and make sure he was all right. She had her blood pressure kit with her so she could at least take his blood pressure. On the way out from church Diane kept telling everyone we passed, "pray for Alan...health". When we got to Bally's we searched the parking lot for the pickup but it was nowhere in sight so I called Alan on his cell phone asking where he was and he said on his way to Patient First. We were only a couple of minutes behind him so we went there and by the time we got there the ambulance had been called and Alan was hooked up to all kinds of equipment. Diane drove the pickup and me to the hospital. She asked me how to move the seat forward and I didn't know how except for the passenger seat so she sat on the edge of the seat and we prayed we'd get to the hospital safe. When we arrived we went to the Emergency Room and what I saw I wasn't prepared for. Alan was in so much pain and kept trying to sit up to relieve it...the doctor asked us to wait in the waiting room so they could do what needed to be done. We waited and waited for what seemed like an eternity. I was so glad that Diane was with me! I was a mess. We prayed and she called her husband Les telling him she had parked their car at Patient First and to come to the hospital after Sunday School class and to tell the church that Alan was having a heart attack. The church prayed. Soon the cardiologist came out and told me Alan had had a heart attack and they were going to put a stent in. We followed Alan to the waiting area and soon Les was there. I called Alan's mom to let her know what was happening. I couldn't even talk so Diane did the talking to her and got her cell phone number for me. Les, Diane and I waited and in 30 minutes the surgeon came out saying everything went smooth and he only had one blocked artery and was able to put the stent in. We all praised the Lord! We went up to ICU where Alan was and were able to see him. He said how much better he felt already. I was so thankful for Les and Diane. Les has had stents, heart attacks, and even open heart surgery so he talked to Alan for a bit and I know they'll talk more.

Diane and Les left as they had plans to drive to Pennsylvania for a birthday party for Diane, a week early since that was when it was convenient for everyone. They said they'd come back that night and give me a ride home and drive the pickup home. I was so glad that everything turned out the way it did. Alan had prayers going up for him from the west coast to the east coast. I called his mother, Sheryl to let her know all went well. My friend Margie came by later in the afternoon and we spent some time in the cafeteria drinking tea. It was good to see her and catch up since we hadn't seen each other since her cruise in February.

That evening I was so relieved that God had kept Alan safe. So many things could've happened as Alan had pulled over the side of the road as he was nausea and when he got out of the pickup he laid on the ground. It's so good he was able to drive himself safely to Patient First and that everyone there did everything efficiently to get Alan taken care of and transported to the hospital in record time. God knew what was happening and made sure that everyone that would be needed was in their proper place at the proper time. Alan stayed in ICU until late Monday night and then was moved to a regular room. He was anxious to get out of the hospital. He was released from the hospital on Wednesday but won't be released to go back to work for 4 weeks. He is doing really good but since he had a heart attack the cardiologist wants to make sure everyting is okay. We go on vacation in 2 weeks so it will be nice to relax on our cruise...and be just what the doctor ordered so to speak.

God truly is good...all the time! Thank you Lord for watching over Alan!

Romance is in the Air

With our 25th anniversary only 19 days away I've been thinking about the day we got married, April 30th, 1983. I found our audio cassette from our wedding and was trying to figure out if there was a way I could have it converted to a CD since it's hard to find any cassette players anymore. I tried talking to Ritz Camera and Radio Shack with no good solutions and then thought to go online and see if I could find something...and I did! I read the website thoroghly and then called them today during my lunch. They assured me there would be plenty of time for them to do it and mail it back to me. I placed my order online and will mail it out tomorrow from the post office the quickest way there is...Fed-ex. I'm so thrilled as my mother-in-law sang two songs for our wedding and I wrote a song and sang it for our wedding. Over the past month I found the words to the wedding song I wrote along with the song I wrote for our first and tenth anniversaries. And of course I wrote a special poem for our 25th anniversary, which I'm putting in the card that I made especially for Alan. Yes, I'm a romanticist...and so is he. I'll share with you the words to all the songs.

Our Wedding Song

Now we walk along hand in hand
Along the seashore, in the sand.
The rustling waters echo our love
And the angels sing from above.

As we look into each other’s eyes
Our vows are said and now no one can deny
That our love is and forever will be
True and lasting for eternity

Now we’ve been joined together publicly
Even though we’ve said our vows alone faithfully
The brooks are rustling by us so quietly
As night falls upon us so peacefully

Our love is and forever will be, true and lasting for eternity.

Yours For Eternity
(First Anniversary Song)

I am yours for eternity to walk proud by your side
We’ve a love so very special; love like ours will never die
We’ve had to be apart for too long a time
Yet I knew in my heart that you were mine
Take my hand and hold me tight
Let’s remember this special night.

I am yours for eternity through both the good times and the bad
We’ve a love so very special, even though riches we have not had
You’re my knight in shining armor
Who’s always known when to rescue me
I’m your maiden so true and loyal
Well sail along the crystal sea.

I am yours for eternity to walk proud by your side
We’ve a love so very special; love like ours will never die.

One Love Shared By Two
(Tenth Anniversary Song)

One love that is shared by two will be
Everlasting when that love’s real
One love that is shared by two will be
Everlasting when it’s true love.

Like a flower that blooms
After winter is gone
So our love has grown all through the years.

One love that is shared by two will be
Everlasting when that love’s real
Everlasting when it’s true love

*(Note: the words to this song were inspired by the words on our wedding announcements that read, One Love, Shared by Two)

I'll share the words that I wrote for our 25th anniversary on April 30th so be looking for it!

A Visit From a Dear Friend

An ornate little jewlery box and lots of beads! Thanks Marie!
Yesterday, Alan and I got to visit with Marie and her husband Jon who just returned from China. They had been there teaching English and had lots of interesting stories to share. Marie and I had kept in touch while they were in China and I was so thrilled to hear that she was back. She gave me this beautiful jewelry box and all these wonderful beads. She's been making jewelry for years and before she left for China I bought several of her gorgeous pieces. When she found out that I had started making jewelry she told me that she had lots of beads for me. I had so much fun going through all the beads, she even gave me some silver butterfly ones that will make nice earrings. In the jewelry box you can see some very 'special beads'. Jon introduced himself but I knew who he was from reading their blog. He's a very nice young man and has done quite a bit of traveling. They plan on returning to China now that they know what to expect. It was quite the adventure for them. Alan and I look forward to hearing more interesting stories from both of them. You can visit their blog and read all about their life in China and see the pictures http://jonandmariehelman.blogspot.com/ I met Marie at Starbucks last year and we became friends, she's so sweet and Jon is an interesting person to talk with as well. I feel blessed in knowing people like Jon and Marie.

Cherry Blossoms in Washington DC

It was a beautiful day we chose to go see the cherry blossoms in Washington.

This depicts the feeding lines popular during the Great Depression at the FDR Memorial.

These columns had engravings so the seeing-impaired could enjoy the memorial as well.

One of the fountains at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Monument.

Mr. and Mrs. Mallard enjoyed people watching.

I love my little scooter! I was able to go all around the Tidal Basin and see things I had never been able to see before. My scooter has a basket so I can carry things in it, like my purse, but Alan forgot to bring it. This was taken in front of one of many waterfalls found in the FDR memorial. Alan enjoyed seeing me buzz all about having so much fun!

The tree that Alan is standing by has huge tulip-like blooms.

Jefferson Memorial is in the background.

If you ever get a chance to go to Washington, DC you might want to go in the Spring and enjoy the Cherry Blossom Festival. You can go to their website to for all kinds of information including the dates when the blossoms are at their peak! We've made it an annual tradition but this was our favorite visit!
http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/cms/index.php?id=390 Check it out sometime. There are lots of activities and so much to do and a lot of it is free! Be sure to take your camera!
